Substitutes for Sea View background adhesive

Hi, I'm looking for something to use in place of Sea View to adhere my background to the tank. Has anyone tried a different type of oil? I'm wondering if baby oil or mineral oil or some other kind of oil would work.

I've read about people using vegetable oil but after about six months that it got kind of funky which doesn't surprise me. I used mineral oil and it worked great, really good consistency for this application. However, I was not sure how the silicone joints would react to the mineral oil so I was very careful to clean it off of the silicone when done. Also, a word of warning, use very little, just enough to coat the background, its very messy!

I can see why you want a substitute, $10 for seaview 99 cents for mineral oil!

We have used baby oil before as well. It worked fine.

I just used canola oil on mine and it's working good so far. Only a couple small bubbles that I still need to smooth out.

Good afternoon,

I simply tape my backgrounds on and then I never have to deal with the mess oils and lubes may leave behind.
