Stupid Question.. Fishless Cycle.

Hello all. Working on a fishless cycle in our 65g. I'm aware that if you plant established filter media in the uncycled filter its basically an "instant cycle". I'm trying to avoid taking my canister filters apart and wondering if I "rinse off" the filter pad or bioscrubber from my well established 20 long into the tank water of the 65 if this will basically accomplish the same thing? tia!

I would think that you don't want to rinse anything off. Isn't the whole point to introduce the bacteria carried on the filter pad?

WTFish?

Unfortunately no, that will just add gunk to the water column. It needs to be seeded media in your filter.

I believe they want to know if rinsing established media into new tank water would create an instant cycle....no.

Oh. What is "seeded media"?

I would be rinsing the established bacteria pad off in the new tank, attempting to put some of the bacteria on said pad into the water of my uncycled tank and thereby running it through the new filter. I'm assuming it wouldn't hurt but don't want to bother if it's pointless.

“Seeded” meaning established media with beneficial bacteria.

If you can get a piece of the old media from established tank and run it in the new filter that would be a good jumpstart.

OH! That makes sense. That's why you put rinse in quotes...
