Ok, my cat has ruined all of my 55 gallon versa tops and I do not want to replace them. My 75 gallon has broken after 2 years. What do you guys recommend instead of them. FYI, I am not going to go without one, my cat really would get in there then. lol... Plus, I can't handle that amount of water in the air, it is humid enough in my place!

Please send me some links or something. Hopefully not too expensive.

I just use that greenhouse material and have it cut to size at my local hardware store
it's this stuff:

it's pretty cheap and keeps in the warmth and humidity

What about acrylic? You can buy it and get it cut at Lowe's.

I'd also work on training your cat. Mine used to do it until I worked with him (not to mention that he fell in and I think that clinched the training). I know it's hard to train a cat, but I think the time be worth it for the safety of your fish and the cat.

Get a spray bottle from the dollar store. Best way to train a cat in my opinion.

I personally wouldn't do this as it can be scarring for a cat and can cause distrust. There are better alternatives, like putting sticky tape on the top of your tank or when she hops up and you tell her to get down, she does it, give her her favourite treat. If you look it up there are tons of ways to train a cat, just make sure not to go a way that's aggressive.

I have tried almost everything, and the spray bottle method works the best for my cat. He's not afraid of me afterward, and he has always been afraid of water, so I don't see any negative/scarred/distrusting behavior because of it. Every cat is different though, but it may be worth a shot for training!

^^ I agree. I only have sprayed my cat a total of 4 times because she learned so fast and wouldn't do it again. I wouldn't go around spraying a cat for no reason obviously lol. I just kept the bottle next to the tank so she could see it. It "protected" my tank.

Here are some good links as to why I personally don't think it's good and why I believe it's unnecessary

This ones pretty vague, but it has a point. If you punish(spray) after she's been up there for a long time, in her mind she's just sitting and you come up and spray her.

This one is a great article.

These are just articles that go with my opinion and I believe what they say. Just my HO. By the way unccleswis, you'll have to post the finished product! Sorry for getting off topic.
