Struggling To Stick To Planned Qt Time

I'm itching to add them to the main tank! Someone talk some sense into me or say I'm not crazy for reevaluating the plan. It's hard to be patient...

It's a handful of ember Teresa and chillI rasboras (both wild-caught) on Day 15 of QT. Purchased from a very reputable LFS, in store at least a month but on a shared water system with other stock. They've had two rounds of Prazipro, show no signs of illness, and eat and school well.

I originally targeted 4-6 weeks but am debating that with myself constantly. Outside of camallanus worms, which might take more than a month to show, what's likely to pop up after this time? What would you do?

Do you treat prophylactically for anything while in QT? Because ich and round worms can both show up after the 2 week mark for sure. I would wait at least another week. I usually quarantine between 21-28 days. Depending on how the fish are doing.

I've just done the two rounds of Prazipro.

I have Paragard on hand but haven't used it.

Would you suggest I dose either of them or just wait and observe? I can wait the full month if it's really better. That was my original plan until I started wavering.

It is better to wait the full month, but if you value the new fish more than the fish already in the tank, you can add them whenever.

Thank you both. I appreciate your input.

I'll be patient and leave them in QT longer.

I think that just the 2 rounds of PrazI is enough, as long as there are no other symptoms of worms.

If you want to rule out or treat ich, I suggest doing this instead. Raise your tank temp to 84F. Leave it at 84 for 3-4 days. If no spots appear in 4 days, you can return the temp back to normal. You will know if you need to treat for ich or not. The heat brings the spots out. Kind of like chicken pox in humans No spots no need to treat for ich at all. Make sure to raise and lower the temps slowly. A degree an hour or so. Also adding an airstone while raising temps is a good idea. It helps oxygenate the water.

I’ve done both the Prazi, followed by heat for all the fish in my current tank. Haven’t had any disease spread yet. Knock on wood. I currently have 7 cherry barbs and 2 cockatoo Cichlids in my QT. Just dosed the second dose of Prazi. Plans to do heat next week. So far so good.

Hope this helps . I hate waiting to move my fish over, I just want it done already. Lol

The waiting is hard.

There are only three chilI rasboras in the main tank; they lost their mates to columnaris a couple months ago. They're outnumbered by the bigger, boisterous embers and they're surviving but not thriving; they're mostly stationary in one area. I keep telling them to hang on, new friends are coming. Those are the fish in QT, thus my eagerness to add them. But I'll wait.

Unfortunately I don't have an adjustable thermometer. I ordered one for the QT tank but it arrived broken so I replaced it with another preset unit. (If you have a recommendation for a safe adjustable heater for a 10 gallon let me know?) Ich is my primary worry now that the two rounds of PrazI are done. I bought Paraguard but haven't used it as I'm not convinced it's effective on ich. I waver back and forth on it.

I know the difficulty of waiting on qt! I say wait at least one more week. I thought 1 week long enough once, ich in main tank the day after adding! But I would also wait to see any signs of ich before using meds.
I use an aqueon 50W in my 10 gal qt, but if I was buying another I’d get the pro. Only a few $ more but it’s all black and has a safety shut off feature.

I prefer the Aqueon brand heaters, only because I have a hard time with dials. It has an easy dial to adjust. Eheim heaters are also a great brand. So either one would be good. A 50W would be plenty for your 10g.

Since you don’t have an adjustable heater, I would treat with meds then. I would do 2 rounds, just to be safe.

You gotta do what works for you, so however you can get to the end point, then do that.

I like the reviews on the Aqueon 50w Pro. I'll pick one up so I have the option of heat treatment going forward.

Re Paraguard: Seachem suggests two weeks of daily dosing for prophylactic treatments. I'm on Day 21 of QT and Day 5 of Paraguard. Two rounds of PraziPro were done earlier. I haven't observed anything odd other than one rasbora who hides a lot but am aiming for another week of QT as suggested. Feel free to suggest any modifications to the plan.
