I have a 10 gallon tank that I divided into 3. thee filters in the middle but its to strong for the betta I have living there, its a topfin 10 filter. is there a way to weaken its flow with out spending a lot of money or buying a new filter?

I have read on here that a lot of people will stuff filter batting into them to slow them down a bit, especially in the discharge area of the filter.

you could put foam in the output area, that helps with biological filtration while slowing down the flow.

Well, I covered the output are with a piece of sock/white shirt, whatever I don't remember, but the filter went very very quiet and now my fry don't hide at all! It used to take the adults away!

If I cut a piece of sponge and stuff it in the filter will that help?

Get a soda bottle, cutthe top and bottom off. Cut it in half lengthwise. Use aquarium safe silicone or tape and place in front of output. This is what I did.

Wouldnt it rust and kill the fish?

That's what I have done, it works really well.

Sorry I'm a bit unclear about that pic. Is that a top view? So if the filter out take is in the tank you put it infront and around the bottom? And tape it there? Also would the plastic rip my CT fins?

Yeah, its a top view. I just curled the plastic underneath the output. I have had it on there for months with no problems. My betta is much happier. You will have to clean algae off of it from time to time though.
