Stripes On Blue Platy?

I never paid much attention to platies but when I went to get more fish to add to my 46gal (was intending on guppies, but store was sold out and then I saw these guys) I fell in love with the blue mickey mouse platies. They are so subtle and pretty.

But there was this one boy who has stripes on his blue. None of the others had the stripes, none of the blues or regulars or males or females. Just this boy. So obviously he was the boy I picked to go with the two females...

But are stripes normal on platies?

There are some variations that do have stripes, but I've seen them red. I've been playing around with the idea of starting breeding programs of a sort with platies and mollies and hopefully selling the young. I want to play around with genetics. I'd totally pick him up for my project. Check out the Bleeding Heart Platy.

Well, both my girls are currently pregnant (one heavily so, she looks fatter than my new balloon molly lol) but if babies come out looking like the boy, that would be pretty cool.

My mind is blown as it is with them being blue, I never knew blue platies even existed. Ive only ever seen high fin, twin bar, sunburst, and mickey mouse, never ever ever any other colour besides red, orange, or yellow. The blue is just a fantastic colour on them. Its plain and dull compared to the others, but that shine on them is perfect

Oh yeah, I have a beautiful Green Lantern Platy that I wish I could get more of but the store never has more. My male is a beautiful shiny blue-teal that is gorgeous. I had a female but she died very suddenly, not sure what happened to her since she was fine an hour earlier. So I never got to breed them :/

That's normal. It depends on each individual platy if it's got those stripes or not. In general, it's not a rare thing.
