55 Gallon Tank Stressed pleco, white stringy poop

I recently added a 5 inch common pleco in my tank and it seems to be stressed. It never fully settles down on a rock, always alert and sits on the rocks with just fins touching the bottom, it doesn't eat any wafers and any veggies I give it, it sometimes swims to the surface to release large gulps of air and today I noticed white stringy poop, what should I do?

Hey, I think that it would best to be to cover the tank in a towel with the lights on dark/night mode or off. Leave the tank alone and away from the stress of children, pets, and as much noise and movement as possible. Check the tank in 3 to 5 hours and see what's up. Also CHECK WATER PARAMETERS this could be the stress? And finnaly, how did the fish acclimate? This could also be a big problem if done to quickly or wrong.

The nitrogen and nitrate levels are very close to zero with ammonia level 3ppm.
Could this be due to internal parasite

The tank is not cycled. Ammonia causes stress. Water change, water change, water change. keep up water changes until you have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and at least some nitrates.

It's been 2 years since the tank setup, I recently thought of adding a pleco so I doubt tank cycling could play any role
