Storeria Dekayi Brown Snake

So recently a young Dekay's Brown Snake has fallen under my care. So far, it has been doing great. It is responsive, alert, readily feeds, and occasionally drinks. So it is definitely healthy. I have kept snakes in the past and know the basics on it's care. Is there anything that DBS need that is different from most snakes? Also, how can I determine the gender? What is the minimal enclosure size? Currently the enclosure I have it in is just fine for it's size. What about adults? Would I need a 5 gallon or 10 gallon? I know they only grow to about 14 in. So I don't think they would need anything really big. Do they prefer a humid enclosure or dry? Any information helps.

Check your states laws on keeping wild snakes. Some of those laws prevent you from collecting or returning the species back to the wild. You want a aquarium where your snake can stretch from one side to the other completely without bending. As for diet, they are very much like garter snakes and could be fed the same thing. Make sure their is not too much humidity in your terrarium as excess is too much. Simply a bowl of water will be enough.

I've already read the state laws, it is legal here. I have supplied everything you mentioned.

I thought they were bug eaters. I remember an article on them in the fish place blog I think.

They mainly eat worms, slugs, and snails. If they do eat an insect, it is generally by accident.
