Store-bought Driftwood - Dangerous?

Hey everyone,

I bought a really nice piece of driftwood on clearance at a Home Goods. The tag doesn't say anything about it being treated. And I sent an email to the company asking about it, but haven't received a response yet.

I was wondering what you guys think..is it OK to use in a new tank that I'm planning? Obviously I would cure it (as I'm going to do with the other pieces of mopanI wood I'll be using). Please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Does it say "aquarium safe" on the label?

I pick up my own driftwood in clean places. I have never bought any. Avoid softwood with its resins. I expect the company did the same, and probably won't reply.
Try to identify the wood, and I would do it. I have never lost a fish to collected wood, and I have been using various pieces for 30 years. But I have never used a softwood - hardwood only.

No "aquarium safe" or anything like that on the label. I uploaded the pictures of the full label.

But yeah, I'll wait for the company to email me back. I don't really need it - have 6 pieces of nice mopanI that I bought for the 50 gallon I'm starting.

Thanks!

I got mine from a freshwater beach and boiled it for 2 hours, it both sterilizes it and it "steeps" your driftwood so that the Tannins leech out into the pot water and not in your aquarium. I never saw any sense in purchasing driftwood from the store when you can pick some up from the beach for free. here is a list of wood that can and can't be used:
Safe:
Alder
Apple
Beech
Birch
Cherry
Hawthorn
Heather
Oak
Pear
Sycamore

Unsafe:
Cedar (avoid anything evergreen/coniferous)
CypressGrape vine – this rots very quickly
Horse chestnut
Lilac – this is poisonous
Ivy – this is poisonous
Pine
Spruce
Walnut
Yew – this is toxic
