How many Platies are required to form a comfortable group?
And how many female only Platies would be comfortable in a 40 gl Breeder tank?
True water volume is probably 35 gallons, the plant substrate is 3" thick.

    Any help appreciated !

    Gah really?!
I guess I need to stock them in batches, my QT is only a 20 gallon.
    Thanks for the reply

    What are the dimensions?
You only need one, they don't really need groups. But if you want more you can.

    Dimensions are 36"x18"x16"high.
The 20 gl is way smaller because it's a 20 High.

I wanted to buy them all at once and treat them without having to do it twice.
Those dang dewormer meds aren't cheap!
How many could I shove into a 20 gallon without running into ammonia problems?

You'd never want to add that many fish to a tank at once, try adding 3-4 to QT at a time. Once they go in the main tank, QT the next batch.

Oh, oops, I missed the 40g breeder part, I should have known that. It threw me off when you said the true water volume thing.

I agree with MikeRad, most would be 12-15.
