Hey again,

I decided to take back the Blood Parrot to the LFS because even though he had enough character and personality to fill the tank 10x's over, I really just wanted more fish to look at, and as you know, BP's tend to eat everything smaller than them, and in a 40B, that doesn't leave hardly any fish left to stock with.
However, I added 7 Cherry Barb's today and am currently stocked at:

(8x) Emerald Cory
(1x) Albino BN pleco
(7x) Cherry Barbs

PS: (3 ghost shrimp have completely vanished since the BP came into town)

I was looking at a larger fish such as a DG or some type of Rainbowfish or different gourami as a larger and more colorful centerpiece fish to the tank. I also wanted to add a School of 7/8 Zebra Danio's possibly as well as maybe a school of some type of Tetras...as well as a Nerite Snail if I can ever find one.

Any reason these shouldn't coexist together? Which type of gourami/rainbow can live on its own without having a group of the same species, and wont outgrow the 40B?

Which types of tetras are recommended over others for this specific stock? Are Zebra Danio's a good choice?

Rainbowfish are schooling fish so they're not a centerpiece.

How about pearl gouramis or thick-lipped/banded gouramis?

You could do 8 zebra danios but I wouldn't add another school (of tetras).

Just one Pearl? Or TL? Will they be able to be healthy adults on their own in my tank with the ZD school?

What about a small school of Dwarf RBs? Like 3?

3 is not a sufficient number for any schooling on shoaling fish.

Banded gouramis are beautiful.. One of those wouldn't outgrow my tank? Or be aggressive?

I can't help with the Gourami question but as far as I know all Rainbows are at minimum shoaling, although there are definitely some species I haven't read up on!
