Stocking For 250 L

Hi,
So for the past year I've been keeping nano reefs of various sizes... However recently a 250L pre drilled tank with a sump came into my possession, it won't be set up until after Christmas, but for now I want to reserch my different stocking options, could anyone suggest a suitable stocking? These fish need to be Included as I have them already and don't want to part with them.

2x occolaris clownfish
1x tail spot blenny
1x neon goby
2x sexy shrimp
2x nassarius snail
2x turbo snail

I am looking for fish with interesting traits and colour.

Also, could anyone suggest a good light for the tank? It's a juwel Rio 240 (the sump bumps it up to over 250L)

Thanks,
Ethan

What are these liters of which you speak? Seriously though, for what looks to be roughly a 66 gallon tank, I strongly suggest looking into some wrasses. Flasher, Fairy and the peaceful Halichoeres wrasses are tough to beat for their color, activity and personality in a tank of that size.

I can personally vouch for the Hoeven's/Melanurus Wrasse. I have had a juvie in my tank for over a year and it is full of personality. Just be aware that they make take a liking to smaller inverts for food.

Here is what a mature male looks like:

That's a nice looking wrasse , so it won't be ok with my sexy shrimp? Ill look some more into wrasses, they seem pretty good.

Would a peacock wrass work?

I also have a few suggestions from a mental wishlist , could you tell me if they'd work?

Boxfish/cowfish

Ribbon eel

Long nose hawkfish

That fish with no swim bladder (red with a black stripe)

Arrowhead crab

Dogface puffer

I know they are random... Just wondering if they'd work (not all together)

Thanks,
Ethan

Boxfish? No. They need a much larger tank and they have the ability to poison and kill your entire tank if they are seriously stressed or die. Ribbon Eel? No. Way too big IMHO. Peacock Wrasse, I believe is also known as a Leopard Wrasse. The trick with them is that they are notoriously poor shippers and by nature eat little copepods and not much else (very similar diet to Mandarinfish). The only way I would recommend one is if you can find one that has been at your LFS (Local Fish Store) for 2-3 weeks and you can see them active and eating other food. If you do, then you have an adaptable and durable one that should do well for you long term, if not, then you are just throwing away money as they are ex. I actually got a juvie Blue Star Leopard just over a month ago using the method that I mentioned and it will try out just about anything (it even eats dried seaweed). Arrowhead crab would almost certainly kill your shrimp (and any other inverts you have). Longnose Hawkfish may eat the tailspot or neon goby. Dogface Puffer gets a foot in length and needs 150 gallons minimum as it gets bigger (a tank almost 3 times the size of yours). If corals aren't a concern then you should look at a Dwarf Angel (ie Coral Beauty).

Incidentally this is my Coral Beauty and Leopard Wrasse in my tank:

Ok, forgot they had toxins when dead, I though the ribbon eel might be a bit big, but they had a few at my lfs so I thought I'd ask

I was thinking of getting a mandarin so leopard wrasse might work , I'd wait until I had a sufficient amount of pods first though.

Coral is the whole reason I got into the Saltwater hobby, so it like to keep it, I never knew they weren't reef safe, I'll stay away from them then!

Nice tank! And fish had a look at some of your other videos too, I like them

Thanks,
Ethan
