Stocking a 20 gallon tank planted tank. Any ideas welcome

What are the dimensions of the tank? I'd start with a school of cories and a honey or dwarf gourami. Depending on if it's a 20 long or 20 high, you could more.

Its 60cm long, 40 cms high and 30cm deep.

Ok it's a 20 long, you can do a school of cories or kuhli loaches. Then add a honey or dwarf gourami. Lastly, a school of tetras(many varieties to choose from) or some harlequin rasboras.

    Welcome to fishlore!
As an alternative to a gourami you can try a dwarf cichlid like a krib or ram. If you go with a ram make sure the other fish you get can handle the high temps they need.
And make sure to have a group of 6+ of one species in a school.

    Was having a look.
    10 Neon Tetras
    6 Cories
    2 Threadfin rainbows

Is that good? Can there be another lot of schooling fish?

Rainbowfish need to be in a school of six or more but that would put you at overstocked. You can do 2 schools and a centerpiece fish, that's about it.

    What about
    10 Neon Tetras
    6 Cories
    10 Male guppies

That seems even worse than the idea of an incomplete school of threadfin rainbowfish. If you want the neons and the cories, max number of guppies I would do is 3 or 4.

So 10 Neon tetras, 4 Male guppies and 6 Pygmy Cories?

    Yea that'd probably work nicely.

Yes, it'd work, but pygmy cories are more of a middle dweller. If you are looking for a small bottom dwelling cory I would do panda cories or Corydoras habrosus instead.
