Stinky Prime?

I noticed my fish drawer has gotten pretty smelly, it’s been a couple of days and I finally figured out it’s because of the bottle of Prime I have. It’s not very old since I got it in July, and I’ve been using it daily. I don’t remember it smelling like this before, and it’s pretty strong at this point. Is there something wrong with it or is this normal?

Prime normally has a sulphur like smell to it. It smells like rotten eggs.

sometimes I take my bottle of prime out, take the cap off, and take a big whiff of it. reminds me of the volcanoes national park in hawai'i.

yes, it's normal. you're probably just smelling whatever's dried up on the cap or bottle. it's possible it just gets more rank as it ages.

Yeah after a while it starts to have some sulfur smell to it, but it is still perfectly fine to use.

After you use Prime, seal it up in a zip-lock bag. No more stink

Thanks guys, I’m glad it’s not going to harm my fish. It would be just my luck if the bottle went bad and killed everything.

I just did, I can’t believe it made the whole drawer smell so bad by just being in there!

Yeah make sure you put plastic under the cap before you store it in a ziplock back. It'll prevent spillage and keep the stink down.

It didn’t even spill, I've sniffed the whole drawer and it doesn’t seem to be a problem with it not in there. It’s just suddenly that bad!

How do you put plastic under the cap? Hopefully in a way that’s easy to get on and off, like I said I’ve had to use it daily.

Just unscrew the cap, put a piece of plastic like sealing it up and put the cap back on.

take saran wrap, wrap it over the top, including the threads, and then screw the lid on

Won’t I have to replace that with new plastic each time? Might be better to just do it after I start using it less.

I just poked a hole using a toothpick into the foil protector lid thingy of mine so I can use drops.

I actually have a little 1ml needless syringe I use. I did the math (hopefully correctly) and it’s .1ml per gallon. It’s made things really easy.

[5ml per 50 gallon = 1ml per 10 gallon = .1ml per 1g]
