still not great with plants :/

My java ferns on the guppy/platy side of my tank are growing wonderfully, they look amazing. But on the betta side.... i've got two yellowing leaves, and the new leaves aren't growing in strong. Also, my anubias is horrible. It's turning dark, it looks like the stems are shredded, it is a mess. But my moneywort looks good! Also my marimo ball is fine, slight die off in my java moss but healthy for the most part.

I may be headed to the store tomorrow, considering getting some root tabs, and an amazon sword since I accidently left mine out to dry months ago. Do you suppose root tabs could help my anubias? Also, can I keep the sword in the little pot from the store for awhile? I want to give it the best chance of surviving.

Also, suggestions for low light plants are welcome. Advice on ferts and such is very much welcome, but know that I can't switch my substrate :/

Anubias need to be attached to hardscape; driftwood etc. or as long as the rhizome isn't buried or it will rot. They are water column feeders.

No, remove the Sword from the pot and the rockwool. Tweezers work well for that. TrI'm the roots to promote new growth. Heavy root feeder; insert root tab.

I have it attached to a large stone. Made sure the rhizome wasn't buried, but it's still dying. I'm not sure what to do. I use flourish comprehensive liquid fertilizer.

Overuse of ferts is probably your issue here. You don't have any plants that need fertilizers.

That's just odd :/

What lighting do you have again? I thought it was a very low light tank?

Please lookup cabomba and wisteria. They seem to be coming up ok in my very lo tech setup.

I'm using two aqueon color max minI compact fluorescent bulbs. A lot more light than the basic bulbs I started out with.

Hygrophillia polysperma will work great for you. You won't have to worry about fertilizing it either. That was my problem when I started my low light tank. I fertilized too much. Now I do it once or twice a month.

I have noticed my anubias melting and dying off in too much light... but I don't think you have too much. What's the wattage on the lights? I thought I remembered you having about 2 WPG which should be fine for low light plants.

The light has been left on too long a few times, but the anubias has been slowly degrading for quite some time now. For about two months. Should I take it out or leave it? I'm not sure. I'll try to get some pictures for more details.

I'd leave it for now... maybe snails will enjoy munching on the melty parts.

Okey doke. The snails seem pretty interested in the bottom of the plant. They haven't gotten on the leaves yet. I have seen them on my java ferns though, scraping off some algae. My moneywort had algae all over it, I wish they'd snack on that lol.

I will try for pictures tomorrow. Got preoccupied fixing my father in law's car door, the automatic window wasn't working. Why do men buy cars they don't know how to fix?

Someone help my java ferns look awful, absolutely terrible. Half the leaves are yellow and brown, i've been avoiding fertilizer so I can't imagine what's wrong! The roots look black but I don't know why. Should I clip off all the old growth and just let the new leaves grow in stronger?

The roots are always ugly dark colors. Don't worry about that too much. The plant could also still be adjusting to your water. IME java fern can take a long time to adjust. I would leave the browning leaves if they have plantlets on them. If not, you can remove them if you don't like the look.

I think it looks awful. Even the plantlets have brown spots now, and they were doing so great.
