Got a used Fluval 406 and gave it a thorough cleaning.

The outside of the rubber hose connectors is coated with something that's sticky--it feels like an adhesive, even after a vinegar soak. I can't get it off. What IS this?

Do they need to be replaced? If I do need to replace them, it appears that the connectors cannot be removed from the pieces they are connected to. Do I need to replace the attached pieces, too?

    Thanks!

All mine are the same, found while in the water they are slimy but when taken out they tend to form that sticky stuff when you dry them
    Welcome by the wsy
Edit the only permanent piece they are connected to are the inlet/,outlet at the filter the rest are removable
