Starting over much smaller...

Been awhile. Hurricane Ida damage still… lost my 16 year old slider , Piggley. Ceiling fell in tank held him under and drown. Also lost my 150 with rainbows. Too old to start over with that volume of tanks so. Gone with an old 5 gallon quarantine tank for a betta. Took me longer than I thought to cycle use to larger tanks but got it. Eight weeks later betta in , he’s shy but loving investigating the tank and camera shy. Yes I need a much better light only have large one’s I could save. Looking into the Nicrew full spectrum for a 5 gallon. Not really going to get into a lot of plants like on my big tanks. The moss came out my rain barrel and may just stay with it for now. Tank in the working , will take time at my age since the hurricane. How's you think it coming so far.

Sorry about your other tanks. That would be horrible to come home to. :(

Your new tank looks great so far. :)

That betta is a beautiful deep colour !!

oh wow , I’m sorry for the damage and everything you’ve been through :( heartbreaking.

Taking your time is the perfect way to enjoy a tank in my humble opinion.

Ok about a week now and he's having fun in his new home. He's also getting better food than LPS was giving him and starting to look better. Got my Nicrew light still working to get the right par level I want for him. The grandkids named him Bubbles so it's going to be Bubbles. Thanks to those who responded !

Sorry about all the damage and losses, that must have been so stressful...
I'd get a couple of low-care plants to replace the plastic ones, but otherwise looks nice.

Thanks “V”. Since I got my plant light , yes, in time will have all live plants. I’m an old timer aquarist use to 150 or larger tanks for the past 6 decades. Much easier to maintain a good balance than on a small tank , water cycle , plants , bio load … Some do add maximum amount of plants at once and that work’s too. Being in this hobby over 6 decades the only small 5 gallon tanks I ever had were quarantine tanks but most of them were 20 gallon setups for turtles and fish. At my age knowing how fast things change in very small tank I’m not planning to add other plants for a week or so. It was almost 8 weeks to get a steady cycle with just the moss from my rain barrel then Bubbles added. Yesterday just got my plant light. Once I test the levels on the new light to get a par around 30-35 will add some crypto’s I saved from the storm. Going to keep it low tech at my age now. Thinking to adding some dwarf water lettuce at some point too. It will slowly come together for my new family member in time. Thanks’

Never be in video production with my cheap consumer cellular phone but … Not much has changed this week. Was so much easier to control things on my big tanks for sure. Getting close to where I want my lighting. Having a little algae showing up so reduced time on lights. One thing is this guy gets mean. He may still be adjusting or just don’t like my hand in “His” tank. Not sure he likes the camera either. That will change over time hopefully. Color still filling in since on a better diet. Moss is growing and has some pearling starting. That’s about 2 hours after the lights come on. After hearing the debate for decades on pearling , the good and bad , will let mother nature control that .

Here’s a short look at Bubbles:

Blondie is a good theme tune for that betta ! He really stands out , what a pretty fish . The moss looks good too.
When he attacks your hand just stay still , he will learn it does nothing eventually ( maybe !)

Just a short video on Bubbles tank. Took most of the moss out was growing crazy and plastic plants now. Yes I know the benefits of live. Doing what I must being old , mobility restrictions and still dealing with Hurricane Ida damage. "KIS" at my age. I had my Hay Day. A neighbor that I setup their 90 gallon a few years ago donated a few neons to me. Getting along with Bubbles great. Aquascaping was fun for six decades but now just cant. My smallest tanks were150 gallons and had pounds of plants in most all of them. And then a 70 gallon plant backup tank . Even my turtle tanks had lots of plants. Today things are just what they are. Plastic plants look better today than sixty years ago. Works for me and Bubbles , enjoying it ! Oh , video shows By Litefoot that's my given native name. It's short hope you enjoy it.

Bubbles looks so much healthier than when you first got him ! His fins are even more impressive. And hey, nothing wrong with plastic plants as long as you’ve got a happy , healthy fish , which you clearly do !

you’ve been realistic to what you can/ want to commit to and it’s working out really well :) for what my opinion is worth , I think your tank looks better without the moss ! I prefer live plants normally but you’ve got that tank looking real good.
