HI everyone,

I am going to start a new tank size 60x45x45.
I am considering prawns and fishes together. Any recommendations? Also with live plants. What plants should I get? Soil? And also the lights for the tank to grow the plants. Any advice is appreciated. Sorry for the question as I am just a beginner. Considering tetras, Red cherry shrimp

Thanks everyone

If you're going to use soil, then I would recommend getting fast growing plants. However, you have to wait around 2 months before you could add any fish.

Any good plants to recommend? And what type of soil?

If you are planning to use soil, then I would suggest using fast growing stem plants such as anacharis, hornwort, hygrophila, ludwigia, etc. Floating plants help a lot since they absorb much of the nutrients. You also need something to cap the soil as well. Also, why do you want to use soil? Are you planning to do a Walstad tank?

It's possible that the tetras will eat the baby shrimp, but maybe someone else has other experiences.
You don't really need special lights to grow plants. There are plants that don't require a lot of light or CO2, for example, Amazon swords, vallisneria, Java Fern, most cryptocorynes and echinodorus species. Also some stem plants like hygrophila and Bacopa. You could try ludwigia repens, but you probably won't get the deep red color as it really only comes out in high power light. Ups, I almost for got the bread and butter plant, Anubias. As far as I know, all Anubias plants thrive in low light.
With you being a beginner, I would not suggest using aqua soil. When you first start a tank with soil you have to really have to stay on top of the water changes and keep adjusting how long your light is on. Otherwise you'll end up with a tank full of algae really fast. But, as I am someone who likes challenges, I don't see why you can't try it. Just keep in mind that problems could come up where you have to remain patient and not give up. But we're here for you, if there is anything going just reach out to us and we'll work through it together.
