Starting my first betta tank!

I decided to make my first betta tank! I’ve never had a betta tank before and I had some questions.

1. It’s a 29 gallon so could I do a male and female? Because I want to breed them but I don’t know if they c an live together.

2. Is driftwood ok as long as it’s not sharp?

3. This is a used tank already so it’s pre cycled because the fish that were in it got upgraded. It has sand and I really don’t want to deal with taking it out so what plants go good in sand with no ferts or O2.
Thanks

1. no they'll kill each other unfortunately

2. yup

3. tons of options here. youll need root tabs but thats nbd. any root feeder works, swords, crypts, etc. if you dont want to do root tabs just use column feeders like anubias, water wysteria, java fern, banana plant

Does it matter what Anubias they are? I was just looking and there’s tons of types. And just to confirm they don’t need root tabs and would be fine in sand right

Any anubius would work and they all look super cool! They dont need root tabs and actually cant be buried in the substrate or their rhizome will rot and the whole plant will die. Its best to super glue or tie them to rocks or driftwood.

What other plants don’t need root tabs or o2 but their roots can be buried?

I think most stem plants would work well for you!

I'd say, amazon swords, dwarf sag, bacopa, anacharis, maybe some crypts!

I actually have a planted anubia barteri, and it's doing fantastic! You just have to make sure that you ONLY bury the roots, and leave the rhizome out.

On that topic, I also have buried Java ferns! They typically can't be buried either, but if you do it properly it works!

Ok amazon swords are cool so I might do those but what’s a rhizome? Sorry for all the questions but plants are completely out of my comfort zone

here's a pic i found from aquarium co-op!

Heads up, my amazon swords tend to be tricky i got some dieback at first, but they came back strong.

no worries on the questions! You want to learn, thats good.
