Starting a shell dwellers tank

ZER0C00L

Hey all wanting to start a shell dwellers tank and wondering if anyone has some good ideas for a tank setup?

Sand, shells and hard water are the basics - perhaps some rocks to define territories. What species are you interested in?

Not sure yet still doing research
Any suggestions?

Agree, that's all that is necessary.

Tanksize? (Footprint LxD) That would determine a lot with shellies.

Probably a 20 gal

60x30 (high) or 80x30 (long)?

The bigger the footprint, the better.

Probably a long from what research we have done

Then most shelldwellers are ok.
Most Neolamprologus shellies, Lamprologus ocellatus, Telmatochromis and Altolamprologus sp. Sumbu Shell.
I would stay away from Neolamprologus callipterus and other species with very big males, though.
