Starting 20 Gallon Tank Question

Hello everyone! First post here!
I am planning on moving my two mollies into a large tank as they deserve it. I'm moving them from a 5.5 to a 20 gallon. I want to move them as soon as possible so they can be happy, but I know that cycling is very important. I am currently using the easy clean filter that comes with the 5.5 gallons LED starter kit. This tank is cycled, thus the filter has the beneficial bacteria. Is it possible if I use this 5-gallon filter in my 20-gallon along with the filter that will come with the 20-gallon?
Thank You!

It is possible and I think that you should do that to keep the beneficial bacteria at a high level so if you plan to restock the 5.5 gallon tank, you can already have a filter.

Definitely. Run them both for a week or two. Mollys are hardy, but I would still test for ammonia and nitrites daily. I would likely dose with Seachem Prime every 48 hours and Seachem Stability once daily for a week.

I’ve moved my mollies around several times for breeding and simply giving the ladies a break from the relentless male pursuit. They always endure, but there’s nothing wrong with making them as comfy as you can.

Thank you for the help! Another question, how do I know when the other filter is cycled (I'm going to use the 20-gallon filter as well as a sponge filter) before I take the 5-gallon filter out to use with another tank?

Once again, thanks for all the knowledge!

Hello!
I'm starting a 20-gallon tall tank pretty soon here. My two poor mollies are in a 5.5 gallon and I'm working hard to get them a new home fast. I know everything about cycling and that will all be taken care of. After my large filter is cycled (I'm putting my cycled 5-gallon filter in their as well for awhile as well as treating the water more), I, of course, want to add more fish besides my two mollies and my apple snail.
I was wondering if anyone had some advice for a good stock. Here is my plan so far so let me know if there is a problem with it. I want it to be pretty but also want each fish to have a happy, comfortable life.

Will probably get 4 more mollies. I have one male (black) and one female (Dalmatian) so maybe four more females if that is sensible. I was also thinking of getting some harlequin rasboras, maybe 5? What is the ideal number?
For bottom dwellers, I was thinking some Corydoras catfish because they are so cool. Maybe a Pleco too? I love those things. Maybe that would be too much on the bottom though because this will be a tall tank. If not a Pleco, maybe a Panda Loach. Those are pretty cool too!
I also was thinking a dwarf gourami fish. I have heard they are a bit aggressive and I probably would be overstocking the tank (which I definitely DO NOT want to do) so maybe that can be for a future tank!
Of course my apple snail Gary would be in there too. I probably won't get any more snails so Gary can just chill. My plan is also to have some anubias nana, some amazon sword, as well as some bacopa. Also going to do an Asian theme too. Hoping to get that dragon airstone bubbler for oxygen for the plants and fish, any opinions on that?

So what are you all thinking?

Also, a question to add to that, I am also getting the Marina LED Aquarium Kit. How do you think the lighting will do for the plants? Planning and getting root tabs, but maybe this lighting isn't enough. What do you guys think?

Mollys should have a 29 gallon but if you move theme to the twenty that might work

I'd don't think you should get more because they will get 5 inche. That's two big fish l. I think you should stick with the to you already have

I have the same 20 g and it's great for my to Anubis nana light wise

And don't put ANY plecos there OR other fish mabey some shrimpies

What you could do is use you're old media that you would thro out

Thank you for the reply! Hmm, I have read that the mollies I have only get up to 3 inches. Will even a group of corydoras disturb the tank?

Nice tips. I'm thinking about going into Molly's too.
