Stand Options For 29 Gallon?

I am in the market for a 29 gallon fish stand (preferably with storage space), but all of the ones I can find are super expensive. Does anyone know of either an untraditional shelving or cabinet unit I can use as a stand or how to build one for a fish tank? I want to check out all my options before going retail!

DIY fishkeeper on YouTube and has a book shows how to build stands. There are lots of designs online. Oftentimes deals on craigslist and offerup are great. You might get a 29 tank with stand for less than a new stand alone. If you use furniture, I just try to go for solid hard-wood. Top dimensions must be larger than the tank and it should be level and have balanced support. None of those desks where its shelves on one side and sticks on the other. Gives me the creeps with a tank on it.

What would you consider expensive? Secondhand stores are worth looking at, though you’ll have to do some poking around if yours is like the one here - the sort of store where you have to walk sideways a lot to look at everything.

I got mine from Petco, it got delivered fully assembled made in the USA, not particle board, real wood. I love it. Lots of storage. God what it is, I think it is inexpensive.

Edit: didn't see the current price. Sheesh, it like 3X more expensive than when I bought mine. Free freight delivery though.....

I’ve been thinking about going and looking around, obviously I won’t buy the rickety feeling ones but other than that, what sort of support should I be looking for? (Shelves, cabinets, wood, metal)

If cost is an issue I would just go on Craigslist and find stands there.

I just feel that there's a lot of risk with this set up. Especially down the middle. Just my opinion though.

I love all these options, but I think I'm going to go with your advice and look on craigslist officially now. I've been browsing for the past month but could never decide if that's the route I wanted to go. After looking at all my choices, it would be more cost-effective and smart to get a used one that might come with all the supplies plus a stand. I'll keep this updated but you've convinced me!

If I do decide to keep the 29 gallon I have, this shelving unit looks promising! Thanks for the link

I have one of these shelving units in my bedroom holding up a 55" LCD TV, a 5cd/dual tape stereo with speakers, Blu-ray and VHS players. This thing is bullet proof and doesn't even wobble it's THAT strong and solid! Can't beat it for the price. I got mine on sale for $32 at wally world!

If you want a relatively low cost premade stand has a 29 gallon aquatic fundamentals stand with cabinet for $55. I wasn't expecting much considering the price but was pleasantly surprised with the weight and solid construction. Definitively better built than the cheapest stands I looked at in stores. There are no shelves in the cabinet space so I built a simple freestanding shelf that fits inside to keep it a little more organized There are definitely better looking and better built stands but this was the best I could find at this price point. Only had it for about a month and I've been careful to quickly dry any splashes but I am hoping it will hold up for awhile.
