Spotted a singular hydra

20gal, heated to 72F, hob filter and sponge filter, ~35 adult shrimp, 7 harlequin raspboras, live plants and moss
Yesterday I found a dead adult female in my tank. Didn't think too much of it, these things happen. I have a new booming cherry shrimp colony and tons of babies and juveniles swimming around.
Today i was observing some of my berried females since one of them dropped babies the other day and i saw a hydra. Knew it was a hydra by how it was behaving, dint waste any time to get a pic and siphoned it out.
Did my research on hydra and know that RichieP recommends planaria zero, but since i only have seen one hydra so far I dont want to risk killing all my snails (have pond snails) and having the ammonia spike kill all my shrimp. Same with heating the tank, it's unfeasible for me to try and siphon out all the shrimp there is so many babies and right now I am not at the point where I want to lose any.
Right now I have placed my nicest berried female in a HOB breeder box, and am looking for some advice on what to do. Not going to feed at all today.
Looking for a solution that minimizes loss of baby shrimp and does not kill snails. Please help thank you!!

First id take that female out of the breeder box youll do more harm as there's no bilfilm for young to eat, the fact you only seen one can guarantee theres more but its not the end of the world jus make sure you have treatment on hand and if you see more you will have to treat,
I have the same breeder box as you and young shrimp will go between the outlet slats anyway and you'll only stress the mother

 

i have a piece of wood with some blackbeard algae on it and i just took it out i found more hydra on it. Should i go ahead with the palaria zero? How do i minimize effects of snail death?

You will have to treat cos they'll be in the filter as well, the chances are any snails affected will try and escape if they feel endangered so you can help and manually remove , I've also found with planaria zero it doesn't always kill snails, I can honestly say I've treated with the loss of one nerite but pond snails are pretty tough,

i live in virginia (US) and planaria zero from benibachi takes weeks to ship and costs double other treatments

Bot of them are ok but very expensive you can use dewormer which is probably cheaper and just as good just dont overdose

That is correct its a dog dewormer

Fenbendazole is sold as Fenbendazole which is the same

I second that pond/bladder snails are hardy, you can cycle a tank with 10 ppm ammonia and 10 ppm nitrite and the snails will just crawl around like they dont care laying eggs all day

 

found where they are hanging out-in my bamboo wood. So far this is the only one i can see in there but i am thinking i will take the bamboo out of the tank when i get my fenbendazole and put all the bamboo in a separate container and just nuke it with the treatment. Also going to treat the tank but this seems like a pretty good solution to me if anyone has any thoughts

 

Do it all in one tank its not worth trying to separate anythinh

 

I have used "no planaria" many times and have never seen ramshorns or bladder snails affected only nerite snails.

 

Yesterday I treated with fenbendazole and today I can't see any hydra in the places I sprayed, no shrimp or snail death!

 

Personally, i fell in love with keeping hydras in aquariums with other fish. However, they are a problem if you want to breed shrimp so it is a good idea to not keep them in the same aquarium.
