Sponge Inside Intake?

HI all- I have my betta in an aqueon minibow (just the normal version not the betta version). The filter seems to disrupt the surface more than he likes, and I noticed him getting jostled around if he goes up near the outflow. I ordered a prefilter sponge but when placed around the intake it made very little difference. I cut a slice out of it and put it inside the intake, and that adjusted the flow perfectly. There seems to be a plastic piece in place above where the intake attaches that would keep it from getting sucked through. Is there any reason you know of that I should not continue with this method? Thanks!

I’m not familiar with the filter you’re referring to but as long as the prefilter can’t get sucked into the impeller, you should be fine.

I have done this before! It does work well, but keep in mind it will collect all the sludge that gets sucked up so needs to be cleaned regularly.

I use this method on my 10 gallon as well. It works great for my betta. A lot better than that plastic bottle method

Listen to wodesorel.

It will collect gunk quickly and completely stop the flow. So clean often. I recommend every water change.
