Sponge Filter Questions

    Hey Guys,

I am setting up a small sponge filter in my 20GL fluidized bed sump of my 85 gal freshwater aquarium to be used when necessary in a 10G quarantine tank. I have a very small air pump (rated for 5-15 gallons on the box, 1200cc per min of flow) that I used on an old tank for a small decoration. The sponge filter is a 4.5in cylindrical sponge (Link:Amazon.com : XY-380 Aquarium Fish Tank Biochemical Sponge Filter, 4-1/2-Inch : Pet Supplies).

QUESTION: What flow rates do I need from the air pump to properly filter the 10G quarantine tank? Is the pump I have now strong enough, or should I pick up something with more flow?

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have! This is my first foray into sponge filters and have found a bunch of conflicting info online.

The sump isn't deep so that air pump should be fine, run it full tilt. If it doesn't work to your liking get a JW Fusion 400 for $ 10.

Thanks for your help! Glad I don't have to pick up anything new right away.
