Sponge Filter Cleaning

How often is it recommended to clean your sponge filters?

 

About every month you want to scrub it a bit in the tank water. I like to fully replace mine twice a year but that’s up to you.

I like to do it because my tanks have sand so a lot of the times it builds up sand.

 

Right, thanks. All of my tanks are different types of sand, and I have 2 newer sponge filters in 2 of them, so I'll watch out for that!

I wouldn’t be replacing mine, they most likely will hold up.

 

I haven't replaced my sponge filter and its been 2 years. But I have heard to squish it out in the tank water every 2 months.

 

Depends on the situations. My shrimp tank I only do once a year. My big tanks with poop machines and messy eaters get them once a month.
