Spitting pellets out?

I've got 20 rummynose tetras and have noticed if I try to feed them NLS small pellets or hikari micro pellets, they tend to take it in and spit it right back out. These are about the smallest pellets I can buy, wondering if this is because they don't like them or because they are too big? Both are pretty small pellets and seem like they should be able to handle them fine, some of them are smaller juvenilles but not really tiny.

Are they new fish or are the pellets a new thing? It can take a while for them to adjust if they've only been fed flakes previously. Hikari & NLS are good brands, they will take to them after a while if hungry enough.
