Spitting fish?

HI everyone,

I recently got a royal gramma for my aquarium. Lately, I noticed that it liked to scoop up some sand in its mouth, swim somewhere else and spit it out.

Anyone know if that is normal?

Sounds like it might be nesting......

That's definitely interesting. Did you research the breeding characteristics on this fish?

I have one that made a small hole in the sand at the base of my live rock and it had to have moved the sand to make it because that hole wasn't there before...

Thanks for the feedback.

I tried researching online but no website mentioned anything about royal gramma spitting.

Nesting? Its just collecting sand from here and spitting it out there....and doing it all over the place. Not only near live rock. But sounds very similar to Mike's case.

So Mike, what did you do? How is the fish now?
