Species of nitrifying bacteria

Alejandro

We have freshwater , brackish and marine tanks

For each we also have hot and cold

Are the nitrifying bacteria in the systems interchangeable? Can I take cycled ceramic media from tropical to cold - what about fresh to brackish or even marine?

It would seem the same genera of nitrifying bacteria inhabit all habitats but it might be reasonable to expect adaptations of certain species to each.

Anyone tried using cycled media across tank types ?

You should be able to go through different temps as long as you acclimate. I don't think you can move between salinities without losing your cycle. I've never done it personally though.

It may help but most likely go through a cycle again. Try Fritz turbo start 700 for saltwater it would cycle quicker and seachem prime to detoxify nitrates and nitrites with a 6 x dose if needed to help lower them in case its too high and stability the most stabled anaerobic bacteria in the market. To keep nitrates in balance and help break down waste.
