My very first spawn. These are cellophane halfmoon plakats. The mom, Gerda, is the sister of the dad, Edwardo.
Day 1: They danced and chased, then spawned over the course of the night.

Day 2: The proud dad constantly looks over his eggs, occasionally eating a dead one.

Below are pictures of the before they spawned. The dad is tired, mom is tired with a few years, but she'll be ready to breed again in a few weeks.

Day 3: mom is doing great, and dad looks wasted. He's doing a great job though.

Day 4: Eggs hatched, and dad franticly collects fallen fry. I begin preparing future food. You can see all the adorable tails hanging down, and dad is still doing great!

Day 5:
It's incredible to watch dad grab the babies and put them back. He moved the nest out from under the bubble wrap. There's a lot more babies than I expected!!

Day 6: Fry up close. Dad has been removed, and I will be heading to my LFS later to find some food for the fry. There are plenty of micro organisms that I can see them eating, so I'm sure they will be fine a few days.

Day 7: Fry are officially free swimming. I went to my LFS and grabbed fry powder to mix with their first meal of mashed egg yolk. The store sold out of guppies and had one single guppy fry all by itself. They gave me him for free since he was so tiny. He's now happily living with the Betta fry.
The pictures below are of the single guppy, and the free swimming Betta.
I started a Microworm culture; hope it's ready within the passing days.

Day 10:
Betta fry are growing so fast! As big as a grain of rice! The picture is pretty blurry; they are too quick to catch.

Glad to see my grandfish are doing well! A few pointers though, you will want to start them on baby brine shrimp after their first week of free swimming.

Also, I wouldn't put it passed the guppy fry to eat the tiny bettas. If it can catch them it will try eating them. This is why it is not recommended to mix fry sizes, even if they are the same species.

Understood, I will keep an eye on the guppy. The fry are starting to match it's size fairly quick.
Fry eat egg yolk, and fry powder formula. Micro wlrm culture is growing and BBS are not hatched yet.

Day 12: Fry enjoy a fine dine of baby brine! They grow up so fast...
Size: Grain of rice
Diet: Egg yolk, fry food powder, and live BBS.
This one ate a lot of BBS! You can tell by his orange stomach.

Day 17: Fry are eating Microworms, live BBS, fry powder, and egg yolk recipe.
Size is a grain of rice still. They are starting to look more like fish though if you look closely.
Mother fish is not doing very well, and is either egg bound, of bloated. Father fish is ready for another round.

Day 23: Fry are becoming quite large so far. You can really see the fish starting to form. They are as big as or bigger than a grain of rice, with a few runts. They eat live BBS, micro worms, repashy hatch and grow, and fry grow powder.

Lost track of day:
Some beautiful new changes going on!
The cellophane HMPK fry look like tiny female Betta. They eat micro worms, fry food, Walter worms, micro worms, BBS, and vinegar eels.

Summed 120 days old:
Got the fry into a new home. They live in a 20 long and they have plenty to eat. The biggest is half an inch with the smallest being a grain of rice. I've begun culling any micro runts.
The coi cellophane pair's spawn has one lucky survivor whom has a grey body and red fins. He's growing fast, but still no bigger than a grain of rice.
My guppy fry are in the hundreds now!! Mamma guppy won't stop giving birth! Some are already showing colors that seem to be a blend of aqua and yellow with black spots. Can't wait!
Some cellophane Bettas are cellophane with red dorsal fins.
Pictures will be posted later, but I'm glad I am still able to save at least 20 from the spawn!
Also, that single guppy that was talked about early on is now a fat female with blue fins and a greyish body!

One is grey with reddening fins, and the other is grey.

Hello! Been a while since I posted on this thread but I'm pretty sure it's been between 7-8 months since they hatched!
The largest fish are an inch with the smallest being about half an inch. Unfortunately those who were unable to catch up had to be culled, but the fish are growing rapidly now! Their appetite has grown as well.
The colors are pretty one sided with one exception. The koi male/ cellophane female's spawn mostly died, except for one. His color seems to match that of his grandparents which I found cool! The others range between solid white, cellophane, and cellophane with red splotchy fins.
I do hope I can start selling them in the nest 2-3 months, but I have to admit it breaks my heart to think about letting them go after all this time! :(
They do have a lot of personality. When I place my hand in the water they all swim up into it. A few of them are a bit shy and won't eat until I'm gone while the others come and beg for food! :)
