I have some questions on sparkling gouramis because I was gonna get some for my new 20 gallon aquarium once I have finished cycling it.

1. how many should I get?

2. what are their water peremiters?

3. fo they need any suppliment or special food.

4. are they aggressive or are thay nice and calm.

Thx in advance ;D

Which species?
There are two commonly available -
Trichopsis pumila (Pygmy Gourami/Sparkling Gourami), which I have, these are the 'tiny ones', about an inch long.
Trichopsis vittata (Croaking Gourami/Sparkling Gourami), which are about 2.5"
There is a third species (T. schalleri) [sp?], but is less common.

I don't feed my T.pumila anything special (good quality flake and freeze-dried plankton as staples, frozen bloodworms and frozen brine shrimp as special treats [one or the other once a week])
They will also nibble at hair algae etc. (very small mouths)

They are extremely shy, and need plants (live or fake) to hide in/escape to. Mine seem to really like the dark background (black) too.

They are fairly independant, but like all small fish, occassionally need a school/friends to gain strength in numbers. I would recommend a school of 6-8 in a 20G.

These are my experiences though, and their behaviour may be different with your stocking. And other members may have different experiences.
