Alright there's definitely something in my tank infecting my fish. I've got a second guppy (male this time) who's pineconed. What can I do? I really don't want whatever this is to whip out my tank. Please someone help me

I'm sorry you're having tank issues

How are your parameters? Any new additions to the tank recently? How are the rest of the fish behaving? How long have you had the guppies?

My parameters are 0,0,10-20. New additions include 20 harlequins that I added 10 at a time one week apart. They were in the same tank for 2 months at my LFS with no new fish added to the tank so I don't think it was them. Also 2 peppered corys that I rescued from a 1 gallon tank. They were in there for a few months so it couldn't have been them either. The rest of my fish are acting normal, eating and interacting as usual. The guppies were born and raised in my tank from 2 females I got from petsmart month and months ago.

Any symptoms? Do you know how your ph, kh, gh in your tank?

No other symptoms that I notice. Ph is about 7.4-7.6. I haven't tested my GH or KH in a while but I can if necessary

probably would be a good idea. what temp is it at? and you are noticing no other symptoms before they die?

I'll test them now. The temp is at 76 right now. Kind of high right now but that because its been pretty hot lately. And the only other symptoms before they die are swimming at the top of the water

You have 2 canisters on your tank right? Do you have one of the outputs pointed to the surface or an air stone/bubbler?

KH came out to 4 drops so 50-100ppm. The GH came out to 11 drops. Kind of confused as to what it converts to because it says 6-11 converts to 100-200 ppm but 8-12 converts to 140-200 ppm.

Doesn't sound like that is an issue. Guppy's like hard water but it sounds like yours is ok. Do you have a bubbler or one of the canister ouputs pointed towards the surface?

I have a bubbler in the corner of my tank, it creates a lot of bubbles. I also have a DIY spray bar on my fluval 406 that I have angled up a little so the surface is being aggitated a pretty good amount

Well man I'm at a loss. Any redness around the gills? Clamped? Gasping for air?

None of that stuff either

I think I would try using seachem paraguard it's pretty gentle and broad spectrum. Any aggressive fish in your tank that might be harassing or nipping guppies leading to infections?

I have some Paraguard so I may try that. Do you know if it is harmful to inverts? The only somewhat aggressive fish I have are a dwarf gourami and a Bolivian ram and they don't bother anyone

Should I dose the entire tank with ParaGuard?

I've used it with nerites and they made it. They didn't like it but they made it. Hung out on waterline most of the two weeks what inverts do you have?

Upon much closer inspection of my tank (about and hours worth), I found another guppy that's pineconed. Also, a couple of other guppies (2 as of now) are acting kind of weird. They're just laying on the gravel or my rocks and stuff, lethargic and not really moving much. Dosed the entire tank with paraguard. I hope this doesn't wipe out my tank

Good luck! Crossing my fingers for you. Hard to say what it is. I'd be sure to really vacuum your substrate in hopes of removing any diseased waste or parasites or dying parasites.

Thank you! I just did a water change but I think I'm going to do a second 30% water change/gravel vac tomorrow

Sounds like dropsy. By the time scales protrude usually internal organs have been massively damaged. If your water parameters are fine look into stress-inducing factors such as rocks you might have added from the yard or any ornament not designed for the aquarium for that matter. Also, what are you feeding them?

The only rocks I have in my tank are granite rocks that I cleaned for about 2 hours to make sure they were cleaned and safe. Everything else is aquarium safe. I feel them omega one super color fish flakes

Well, it's not your food and granite is safe, so long as it is granite and there aren't any irregular crystal veins or metal flakes within the rock.

Water changes water changes I suppose would be the only way to proceed, and check if new ones developed signs of dropsy.
