Hi, I've had neon tetras for around 2 weeks and 1 of my 3 have started some sort of white cottony growth on his mouth and he is staying more alone. I've started Pimafix, it's the 3rd day. What else could I do for him?? And does anyone know what is the disease??

My rasboras have that for the second time. Pimafix works well for them and doesn't seem to bother my shrimp at all. From my research it seems like a form of columnaris but I don't think it's overly aggressive unless it spreads to the body. YMMV. I would also research pimafix before using it, it works well for me but others swear it hurts fish.

Lots of people say any of the -fix's will hurt fish like bettas that have an organ that enables them to breathe air from the surface of the tank. I haven't heard anything negative about the -fix's for other types of fish, but lots of people say it does nothing at all. I think this could be Neon Tetra Disease, give it a search and see if it matches.

I've used Pimafix and Melafix for my 2 bettas at the half dosage and it worked great to grow back their fins and heal/prevent minor infections.

But, I wonder if PImafix will work for this tetra, they say on the bottle that it treats mouth cottony growth so... hopefully, the disease won't spread to the others meanwhile.
I'm using pimafix and Stress Guard together to have more results I think.

If it doesn't heal or it's NTD, I'd have to put him in the river or something...

Is this a metaphor for euthanasia? I hope so because putting a fish with a disease in a real river would spread it to local fish! Big no no haha.

Yeah, I’m currently debating the use of melafix and pimafix for my honey gourami with a ripped fin and columnaris-like white spot that’s been there and not showing improvement for 3 weeks with salt baths. Unsure though with all the negative reviews for these type of fish.

It's not a tetra that would have an impact on a river haha. I think it is the more human way to do it for a small fish. He'll just get eaten by a bigger one in a couple of hours while enjoying his time.

And I recommend you to use melafix, pimafix and salt and tannins together I did this with mine and I healed their infections but salt should not be used for more than 2 weeks.

I have two indian almond leaves in the tank now, which was the recommended amount for my 20 gal. I can’t use salt in the tank because of my corydoras and snails, that’s why I’m doing dips instead. But I think I will try half dose mela and pimafix and see if it helps! I’m a big fan of all natural before attempting medications.

I hope your fish doesn’t have NTD, I hear it’s a nasty disease.
