Ive been learning a lot on this site...and the knowledge that I wish I had a long time ago, id like to share ...this is some of the basic medicines that every fresh water fish owner should have on hand...By no means does it mean you must have them, ive just learned from this site, that its great for the just in cases! Most of my fish have lived because of the amazing help the ppl of fishlore have offered.....Alot of us newbies are always wondering how to fix things...I think this list is a great start to a lot of illness's..

Garlic Guard- * For fresh and saltwater fish, planted and reef aquariums
* Contains allicin, the active ingredient in garlic
* Contains Vitamin C for enhanced health benefits

Whet your fishes' appetite with the natural healthful properties of garlic. Contains allicin, the active ingredient in garlic with powerful antioxidant properties that can lessen free radical damage to cells - plus Vitamin C for enhanced health benefits. For fresh and saltwater fish, planted and reef aquariums. (Dr Foster & Smith)

Vita Chem- Supplies the vitamins your fish need for optimum health. Revolutionary water and tissue soluble vitamin formula designed for aquatic plants and animals. Vita-Chem provides vitamins in a biologically usable form so your aquarium inhabitants receive their full nutritional benefits for optimum health. Brings out intense natural colors of fish, increases growth, restores natural vitality of fish, helps increase resistance to disease, and more. Vita-Chem is also great for fin regeneration and preventing lateral line disease. (Dr Foster & Smith)

Fish Protector - Fish•Protector™ is a professional quality water treatment that calms fishes, reduces losses, eases stress, minimizes infection and aids healing - thereby helping to protect fishes during handling, illness and transportation. Fish•Protector detoxifies the free ions of the heavy metals present in public water supplies, such as zinc, iron, lead, copper, and arsenic, which can be lethal to fishes and invertebrates. (Novalek Kordon)

Prime -No other aquarium water conditioning product is required to make tap water safe. Prime removes chlorine and chloramine (even in high chloramine levels), and detoxifies ammonia and nitrite. Provides essential ions and stimulates natural slime coat. Prime also detoxifies any heavy metals found in the tap water at typical concentration levels. When used during cycling, Prime enhances nitrate removal and does not cause a pH drop or overactivate protein skimmers. Great for setting up new aquariums, or when adding or changing water, or to remove nitrate (Dr Foster & Smith )

I can tell you from all my inexperience, that these have saved a lot of my fishies lives..

Hope some of this helps

I have a question-- does Garlic Guard help regenerate fin?

Also, I don't like buying things online because of shipping costs, so do I think I could add some garlic juice onto my flake food instead of buying Garlic Guard?

Thanks

garlic guard/juice promotes healing and builds up their immune systems..its like a fish vitamin.....it won't hurt fin growth, but to say it will regenerate it, no I don't think so...pristine water(daily partial changes) and stress coat will help that...but it doesn't happen over night it takes a few weeks

Any that helped treat ich?

The list Shawnie put together in this threads aren't really meds that treat a specific illness. They help boost the immune system and help with stress and the slime coat.
They won't get rid of ich.

If your fish have ich, it can be treated without meds.
Ich cannot live in high temperatures.
Slowly increase the temp to about 86F Leave it there for at least 2 weeks. This will interrupt the life cycle. It kills the ich on the fish, as new spores matures, the temp will kill it. Increase aeration to make up for less oxygen in warmer water. Do water changes and vacuum the gravel to pick up any spores.

Thanks lucy. I am only buying from breeders and fishlorians now on. I bought from a lfs and now 2 of my tanks have it and one has around 40 fish in it! I put heaters in each tank already and the one is at 88 and the other is at 86 so I will continue that and hopefully all of my expensive guppies don't die like half of my mollies in my other tank:'(

Oh, sorry to hear that your fish are ill.
Imo, if it's a really bad case, I think I would choose to medicate along with the higher temps.
