So What Are You reading ?

I was looking through the searches for book threads to post my news in. There was long ones in 2010, 2011,2012 and they were fun and interesting. So here is the "what are you reading thread for 2013" with a new twist.

As most everybody knows I love to read. One of my favorite Authors is Faith Hunter and I am one of her 271 member(all over the US) Street Team promoting her Jane Yellowrock series. What this means is that She supplies the materials(Book marks, Jane Yellowrock , posters, brochures) I provide the foot work distributing the materials to libraries, book stores etc. The first of six books is called Skinwalker the sixth one comes out april 2 called Blood Trade. This series is Urban fantasy/sci/fi, shapeshifters, vampires and skinwalkers.

ANYWAY she is always giving stuff away when we work hard (It's hardly work) and I got a package in the mail today with a T-shirt that goes with the theme of this series, a autographed sheet from one of her uncorrected ARC (uncorrected last draft), a pin, and Jane business cards. So the shirt makes sense you have to know she turns into a mountain lion named Beast.

Now for the twist. Have you ever met any of your favorite authors? Collected autographs, other stuff?
I have autographed books from JI'm Butcher, David B.Coe, Ac Crispin, DB Jackson I think there's a couple more Included there are autographed book marks and book plates from Faith Hunter and other stuff in the above pics, Book Plates and book marks from Shannon K. Butcher (JI'm Butchers wife), Janet Evanovich. I love this stuff!

Before that was "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson. Another very good read.

Love Ted Danson! Didn't realize his interests were so varied. I'll have to check that one out.

FishFanatic I've heard that name before but not read any of his books. We read a big variety of book types so I'll have to get the first one from the Library. Do you know the name of the first book? I always get the first book of a new set from the library then if I really like it I buy the others

I just finished the last volume of my favorite series, the wheel of time (waited 15yrs for the end of this story), "A Memory of Light", by Branden sanderson. Never got to meet the initial author, Robert Jordan, before he died......but Sanderson is very active publicly, so there's always a chance

I'm also rereading "the nano reef handbook" by Chris brightwell

I ran into Gail Z. Martin at the Renaissance Fair in Arizona one year. She sold me a copy of one of her books, "The Summoner" and autographed it for me. I treated it like any other paperback, it is now pretty well used, but I've never been one to really feel the need for autographed items and such and got more enjoyment reading the book (decent read for that genre) than putting it up and protecting it. I ended up reading the rest of the series.

Is the First Confessor part of the Sword of Truth series or is another series in the same world? I kind of fell out of reading them when I finished "Confessor", which I understood to be the last of SoT? So I don't know much about his new books (havn't even read about them)...the First Confessor is sort of like a prequel right? I'll have to check it out.

While I LOVE the SoT series as a whole, the chainfire trilogy (the last 3 books) were starting to be a bear to read. Wizard's First Rule is probably my all time favorite book.. that is if I pretend Tolkien doesn't exist.. but he's on a whole other level no one else touches.

I'm reading book 11 in the sword of truth series. Love it! This is my second time reading them all.

I am also a huge fan of Robert Jordan's wheel of time. I still need to read the last 2 of that series.

My sisters went without me to meet Tamora pierce I was very annoyed ;p

I was never able to get into the wheel of time books. I struggled with the first one and never got out of the first chapter in the second book. It's a shame because I hear they are good.

I struggled with Game of Thrones when I first picked it up. Then tried reading it again and then before I knew it I read the entire series that was out at the time (dance with dragons was not out yet and I still haven't gotten to it)

You should know that the book versions are almost ALWAYS better than the movie versions. It's a basic rule.

1. I never could finish that book. lost interest both attempts
2. fun read!
3.

1. I was told it was good, so that's why I got the first book and not the rest of the series yet.
2. I know. The movie looks amazing.
3. See what I said to Mr. Fanatic.

oh believe me I know the #1 rule on books vs. movies. I always must read the book before watching the movie, that may I can point out every time something is left out, or something is added. hey CATFISHJACK- are you like me? if the first few pages don't interest you/grab your attention, then you just can't read the entire book?

Currently the book I'm somewhat actively reading is Life Of PI by Yann Martel. Still have not seen the movie.

As for the other question - I have a signed book by JodI Picoult. I think it is a first edition (?). My boyfriend bought it for me a couple years ago for Christmas.

I have never read Faith Hunter but I think I will be checking her out.

Currently reading Two Graves by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. It is the latest book in the Pendergast series.

I read Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Killer. It was pretty good.

Sarah - Who is the author of Remnants? Can't check it out if we don't know the author's name.

H10N1 by M.R. Cornelius. It's kind of an apocalyptic book. Extremely virulent strain of the "Korean Flu" that has killed a giant portion of the world's population. I'm maybe a quarter into the book and it is very good.

It is more of a prequel to the Sword of Truth series, I understand what you mean about the last few books as it kind of goes off into its own kind of story and loosely based off of kahlan and richard instead of being solely on them, which is my favorite parts as well, this one is the telling of how the first confessor gains her power and battles all the evils in the midlands and the set up of the towers that separate the worlds and such.

I'm only 14 chapters in, but so far it has the qualities of his earlier books that I really enjoy. If you like the first half of his books, so far this one seems to be going in the same exciting direction. Though since its so early in I highly doubt richard and kahlan will be in this book.

Butterfly, love it that you have collected autographs and other stuff from your fav authors. Love that you are helping to promote someone's work and getting perks in return. I don't have any autographs, but my hubby has one from an author that wrote a book about Florida beaches...he's even been been featured on the Travel Channel.
I love to read...currently only have time to read college textbooks though.... Endocrinology and Genetics...fun stuff, lol.

I have a ebook reader that I just downloaded it onto, I also have it downloaded on my laptop so I can read it there, I'm pretty far behind since the book has been out for a little bit now, and the title of his new book has been released hehe but I been putting it off for a day I go through TG withdrawls. I love him. Best.. Author.. Ever.. Imo. I really wish I could find another writter who has similar style.

I tried reading the Game of Thrones books, but alas I found RR martins writing style a little bland, I tried, I really did. But gave up. Now I own all his books of that series and can't finish them lol.

welcome to FishLore!

Thanks! I've read all my autographed books. To me that's a better tribute to the author than laying the book back untouched

You guys/Girls are giving me all kinds of ideas for more books to read

Can't remember who posted it but I think Wizards First Rule was the best book of the whole set.

I'm a huge sword of truth fan, and wheel of time fan. I need to catch up on the final two Wheel of Time books, to see how it ends, so no spoilers please I think I have read Wizards First Rule probably 10 times over the years, but for some reason I never get sick of it. I also enjoyed "The Summoner" series by Gail. Z. Martin as well. They are a little cheesy, but good for a quick read that you can actually enjoy, but not be to serious about.

@oscarbud- I liked the dome as far as his newer stuff, but the dark tower was way better
@badgefan- you should get caught up on WoT! Sanderson did an excellent job finishing the story. I had to read memory of light 3 times, so much going on with all these characters were grown to love.....and we don't get more;(
Sandersons new series, stormlight archive; "the way of kings", has potential to be up there with WoT......but I think this is another one I'm going to be waiting 15yrs to read the end of the story
@butterfly- but its no fun if u don't learn the rules in their context
