Hello guys, I recently i went to petsmart to see if they had christmas themed fish tank decor well they didn't so we came home with a betta instead I got a red and blue male betta, well i acclimated him to my tank for 30 minutes, which usually is enough, but the next day I found him dead, so i took him back to Petsmart, took my water to be tested to make sure it wasn't my water quality, well my water quality was fine, so then the guy who tested my water asked how often i change my water (once or twice every week) if i clean the gravel too (i said "yes. and the filter and water) and then he asked what type of water i used and i said "R.O (reverse osmosis) so then he says "oh we use city water here," so basically my betta died because i did not acclimate it long or gradually enough, because the fish store i normally go too is where we get most of our fish and water its a bit more pricey but worth it, well luckily there is a 14 day guarantee on the fish at petsmart so I got a new betta, she was extremely pale from stress but seemed otherwise healthy so i slowly acclimated her getting rid of some of her water every 15 minutes and replacing it with the water from the tank i was putting her in l i did this for and hour and a half then put her in she was super timid, stressed and shy again but then after about an hour she began to regain color and swim around exploring by hour two she is the queen of the tank. im either naming her Periwinkle or Winter but I cant decide

Hope you turn the lights off for awhile, should help the stress a lot!

I got a betta that several months later still hates the light. Almost always gets stress stripes if the light is on for more than 5-10 mins. Then they disappear quickly after lights are off.
