can you put them in a freshwater tank, or are they saltwater only? someone told me to use them in my 10 gallon freshwater tank instead of getting a new pleco (my chocolate albino passed..so sad)

Depends on the type and if you lilke them. Pond snails can become a pest to some and others like them. Mystery and Apple are a little more effective at eating algae though then you need to special feed them so they get some calcium to keep their shells from cracking.

I advise against snails. I used to want one and I finally got 1 but it ate all of my beautifl plants.

thanks all. i have decided against them anyway, after reading that they multiply rapidly, and their need for a higher PH.

hey, snails r cool........u can keep 1 mystery snail in a 10 gallon tank easily. i don't think higher pH will be a problem.
