Snails!!!!!!

Hi,
Hope someone can help with the snail problem.
So last night I stuffed up the settings on my Fluval light on my 84 gallon tall community tank and couldn't get rid of the blue night light setting. Fixed it this morning. BUT when I went past the aquarium to get a drink I noticed LOTS of snails all over the tank. Many MTS and small white ramshorns. Had noticed a couple here and there before but never imagined that there were so many.
I have never had snails in any of my tanks in the 50 years in the hobby and this is freaking me out. They must have hitchhiked in with some plants I bought and were probably eggs.
Is there a way to completely get rid of them?
Not sure about using chemicals to kill them because large numbers of dead rotting snails can't be good.
Appreciate any advice.

Loaches are very good at eating snails. They’re predators so you need to make sure there aren’t any other inhabitants they would eat, like shrimps or other invertebrates.

You can siphon them into a bucket return the same water and get shot of them do this a few to get on top of them. Theres also some good DIY snail traps on YouTube

Or you can get some assassin snails.
Good idea except assassin snails are illegal in Australia. Bugger! I just bought a snail trap from LFS and will see how many I can get overnight.
Thanks!

Well, I got the snail trap full of bait ( algae wafers and lettuce ) and ready to put in the tank as soon as my sunset setting on the light cuts in. See what happens overnight. Fingers crossed!!!!!

in situations like that I just smash their shells. As many as I can see. Traps are nice and do the job but I like to supplement with the smashing.
