Snails mysteriously appearing in my tank

Hi all,
About a month ago I introduced one single small mystery snail into my betta tank (first pic)
Today during a water change I noticed two tiny snails in my tank (pics 2-4). They are super fast-moving and have spotty shells. Can someone please tell me if these are mystery snails or a different kind? I'm not sure if my mystery snail laid eggs because I didn't see any eggs above the water line. Could they have come with the new plants that I added recently? Are they safe to keep or should I remove them?
Thanks a lot!

Hey,

your mystery snail can't reproduce in freshwater.
The others are bladder snails, they usually hitch a ride on the plants we add. :D

Helpful and cute little fellas.

Looks like a nerite snail as opposed to a mystery snail. It can lay eggs if female but as mentioned, they wont hatch in fresh water.

Is it ok to keep them or should I remove them? My tank is only a 5-gallon. Thanks!

wait so how did they sneak in? Were they already born and tiny? Bc if they were eggs they couldn’t have hatched right? If nerites? I am so confused by snails!

The tiny o es, bladder snails, most likely came in on a plant or something, either already hatched or most likely egg. Nerite snails don't hatch in fresh water but can live in it and mystery snails lay clutches with usually 100+ eggs in it, and usually on the tank lid or somewhere else above waterline.

Hahahaha I realized I didn’t erase the part I meant to, which was the part about being overrun. I now deleted it. And now I see what you mean—the so called mystery snail is actually a nerite which can’t hatch eggs in freshwater, and the bladder snails are what snuck in either small, or as eggs! Thank You!!!!!

This.

If you get too many snails, you’re tank isn’t clean.

. . . because it's a nerite snail, not a mystery snail (as others said).

Yes, apologies for not knowing the international names and assuming that naming was correct. :D

Update: So the bladder snails have taken over my tank. Everywhere I look, there are tiny little snails crawling around. They were probably hatched from eggs carried by live plants. I'm planning to clear out the tank this weekend to get rid of them.

Btw I see people are saying the striped snail is a zebra nerite snail. I'm not sure about that because I bought it from my local Petsmart and it was labeled as a mystery snail, unless they got it wrong.

Yeah, Petsmart got it wrong, that is definitely a zebra nerite snail. Better choice for a 5 gallon in my opinion.
An explosion in snails is often a result of overfeeding. Try manual removal with a homemade snail trap, slice of cucumber or netting them instead of tearing apart the tank. Bladder snail eggs can be very hard to notice and if you miss one you may just be wasting your time tearing the tank down and end up with another infestation.

That actually makes sense because I've noticed how it looks different from the online pictures, but I just thought maybe it's a different breed or something. Thanks for letting me know.
I bought some alum powder and I'm planning to soak everything to get rid of eggs as well because I don't want to be picking them out all the time. But if it doesn't work I guess I'll have to do the bait thing.
