Snails keep dying

In my heavily planted 31 gal aquarium where I keep shrimp, Malaysian trumpet snails just don’t stick around.
It’s about 24° Celsius and the water parameters are good for the shrimp which have recently started breeding so I can’t think of any reason why the Malaysian trumpet snails just won't last. Can anybody help me?

What else is in the tank?

Just red cherry shrimp and plants. There’s some daphnia, ostracods and another little bug. I’ll find out it’s name and get back to you

The last one is a flatworm called rhabdocoela. NOT planaria

Are you feeding them? Any calcium as well?

There’s heaps of algae and I feed the shrimp so there’s definitely food. I put a little cuttlebone in the water for calcium. Ph is around 8 and tds around 130

Shrimp need more then just algae. I would think snails do too. Try some protein

These are the foods I give my shrimp. Tropical flakes, hikarI shrimp cuisine, Indian almond leaves, snowflake pellets, occasional cuttlebone bits for calcium, hikarI micro wafers, amino promium pellets and hikarI algae wafers.

I see I misread your post I thought you only feed them the algae in your tank. Do you know what your GH and KH values are? Cuttlebone is good but typically you just add it to the tank and let it dissolve. But to be honest if your feeding all of that stuff you probably are getting enough calcium into your snails. Blanched Kale is a very good source of it.

Kh is 3 and gh is 5

Might want to try to bring those values up a bit. Get some salty shrimp GH and KH and some RO water and slow raise them try for like 5 and 8. But do this slowly over a long time I mean like a month or so. Also keep an eye on your ph as it will go up as well.

Yeah it's a bit tricky for me as I have high pH and soft water

Might want to look at an RO system this way you control the water. I am not versed in RO systems but others on here can help you.

Aren’t they super expensive?

Not sure but in the US you can get them for under 200 usd. I don't have one but I do t really have the need. One point I would like to make is that aquarium keeping is not an inexpensive hobby. My personal experience is your better to spend money up front as it could be much more expensive in the long run.

Yeah I was hoping to avoid that. 200usd is 330 aud and that’s a lot of money for me, I’m only 16 so it’s not like I have a full time job. I talked to my dad about it and he didn’t seem keen. But because of what’s going on, I think I’ll invest in one. Thanks mate
