So starting second tank, just gonna be a betta tank but was wondering if maybe a single nerite snail or something similar would be fine stocking/bio load wise. Also to help eat algae, thanks

Nerites are a good choice, if you don't mind their eggs. The betta will more likely than not leave it alone, plus they can add a nice splash of color.

Good choice!

I suggest you try shrimp, they are pretty good at cleaning. I have some rabbit snails and I love them.

I wouldn't put expensive shrimp in with a betta. I would (and have done) put shrimp from a thriving established colony in with a betta because bettas will eat shrimp.

I would love to do shrimp but would be worried about them being eaten as mentioned above so that's why I was thinking a snail

apple snails are pretty cool, they help with algae and are a pretty mix of yellow, orange and pink. (I would just get one though.)

It's dependent on the betta and it's a good test to see if they'd be ok with snails as well. And that's why you get ghost shrimp since they are cheap and a good way to test it out.

I can't recommend Ghost Shrimp since I put one in with my betta Kevin, and within a day the shrimp had no eyes. 0_o R.I.P ScampI the shrimp. Lol

Mine ate my shrimp. But leaves my nerite snails alone. Do not get an Apple snail. They probably meant a mystery snail. But they are larger so your Betts might bother it. All depends on the individual Betts.

yeah I meant a mystery snail, it was mislabeled at my petsmart. oops!

Mine has had cherry and ghost shrimp and never touched them. He also lives with 9 mystery snails and 6 neon tetras though

I just recently introduced a nerite snail to my Betta and it's been successful. He hasn't bothered the snail at all. I think it's safe to add a nerite snail with the Betta.

And a mystery snail is a name used to describe the apple snails "Pomacea diffusa" so all "mystery" snails are Apple snails but what people call apple snails (Pomacea Cana) are not mystery snails. So long story short all mystery snails are Apple snails but not all Apple snails are mystery snails. Apple is a big category containing Pomacea Cana, diffusa, BridgesiI and more. So you were right saying Apple snail

I'm just gonna say yes to what you said, but I think I am more confused now than I was before. Lol!

Yes a mystery snail is classified as a subspecies of it. Just be careful l which kind you get. Some species can get yo the size of well an Apple.

Mystery snails are a different species entirely from Apple snails. Same genus, different species. Mystery snails won't eat your plants, Apple snails will

Sorry. Mixed up genus and species. I just didn't want this person to end up with a huge snail.

My betta killed two mystery snails. I'm thinking of trying a nerite snail because I need some algae control. It's going to depend on the personality of your betta.

My Betta lives with 9 mystery snails so it just depends on each bettas personality

Yeah, some bettas are bug-eyed monsters when it comes to anything in their space and others are completely mellow about it. Nerites are nice because they don't really have any "sticky outie" bits to attract a betta's attention. The tentacles on mysteries must look like tasty little worms because that's the part most likely to be nipped by a betta.
