Snail Farm?

I recently setup my very own pea puffer tank after learning from my fiancé and his aquariums. It's a 14G with 3 puffers in it and they all seem to have settled in nicely and are very happy. They are so cute!

One of them, Miso, only like snails. The other 2, Meatball and Matzah, will eat bloodworms and snails. The issue is that these little guys eat any snail I put in their tank. They are pigs.

So I want to start a snail farm. Miso loves to hunt the big guys but with how quickly they kill off and eat the smallest snail, I can only give them big snails if I buy them. So what're your tips/experiences for starting a snail farm for my puffer boys?

Get some ramshorm snails, within a bit you’ll be infested with them. They sell them pretty cheaply on eBay (I made the mistake of getting some and in a little while I was overrun with them)

I think the most important thing is that you make sure they are well fed and that they have enough calcium. Also keep up the water changes because the water can get toxic if you have too many of them

Do ramshorn snails need to be in a tank of their own with a filter or can they be bred in a more simple setup? I’m thinking it might be best to keep them separate from my puffers because sometimes Miso only takes a bite of the snail and the rest is left to decay. I worry about them leaving too much waste that’ll be overwhelming for the tank.

We have a snail breeding tank. It’s a little 1&1/2 gallon tank with calcium substrate, a cuttlebone, one decoration, and a heater. We started with 5 ramshorn snails and now we have a ton!!! At first it looked really dirty but once they started breeding and everything settled it was fine. I feed them a sliver of an algae wafer maybe once a week.

(On the side note) We can’t get our puffer baby to eat snails. He loves bloodworms but won’t eat the snails?!?

I would go for 5-10 gallon tank with a filter because once you have that population explosion, the snails become waste machines and it’s easier to keep them all healthy in a bigger volume of water. Specially since they’re going to be feeder snails, you want them to be healthy so they don’t bring any diseases into your puffer tank

It doesn’t even need to be a proper glass tank, you can use a big Rubbermaid bin that hasn’t had anything in it before

Good idea I’ll try it out.
