Small upgrade from biorb

Hello

I wonder if someone may be able to offer me some advice please. I am hoping to upgrade my tank from a biorb 30ltr flow to a aqua one platform 37ltr this weekend. Obviously both tanks have different filter systems. How do I transfer all of the filter media from the biorb to my new filter in order to transfer tanks successfully?

Thanks in advance

Im not overly familiar with either tank but im guessing that they have inbuilt filters? If so, take your media from your biorb (so sponges, any biomedia etc) and move it across to where the media goes in your new tank. You may have to cut it to size for it to fit though. And make sure the media stays wet and doesnt dry out during this process.

moving across your substrate and any decorations will also help transfer your cycle.

Hi

thank you very much for your quick reply! The biorb filter is round and has balls (sorry!) and the new filter is flat and oblong and i cant see any balls. I have attached photos.

should i just try to squish the biorb sponge into the new filter do you think?

Hi. I think the biorb works kind of like a sponge filter by drawing water through the large substrate then the inner sponges using bubbles that go upwards.

If you are using those large biorb stone substrate? Then I would try to put those or some of them in the new tank as well. they will be carrying allot of the good bacteria.

The sponges from the biorb will be able to go in the new filter, may need a snip with scissors to fit.

yes i have the large biorb stones, i will put as many as i can in the new tank.

so im thinking maybe slice the biorb filter in half and stick it into the new filter. By doing that and transferring all decor over, will it be safe to move the fish over do you think?

thanks again

It should be safe to move your fish over if your using the filter media and substrate. You could even use the water from the biorb and top off with new water.

If you have a test kit? Then definately check your water parameters daily to make sure the cycle hasn't been broken. If it is you will need to do a few water changes to keep ammonia and Nitites at 0.
