So recently I got a few golden tetras and they have been doing quite well but today I found out that one has like this small lump that formed on its side. The rest of my other fishes don't have this either so I am not sure whether this is a disease or some sort of parasite. I am quite new to fish keeping so advice on what this is or how I can treat it would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. Could you net this bb and very gently swab the lump with 3% hydrogen peroxide? This will allow you to get a better look at it. Help to find out if it’s part of the fish’s body or something attached. Let us know what you see?

Sorry I've been trying for the past 30 minutes to net it but it keeps escaping into the small crevices of my aquarium rocks so I haven't been able to. But looking at it under the sunlight right now, the lump seems to be part of its body because it glistens with the same golden/silver hue and the tetra.

I understand. I’m still trying to catch a giant danio. I wear out way before him.

Tell me in great detail. How big is it, shape, how much does it stick out, where exactly on the body is it? I’m sorry you’re having to go through all this for me but I can’t see so you’re going to be my eyes. Ok?

Alright I will try. The lump looks to be the same size or slightly smaller than its eye, it's just a round dot but I can clearly see it sticking out, from both side view and front view. It's roughly located on the left side of its body right above its analfin and kind of on the line which runs across it's body to its tail

Thank you. Keep careful watch on it. Keep up with your water changes. Clean water is very important. If it changes in any way, hop on and let us know ok? It may be a cyst or tumor. To know for sure at this early stage, you’d need to take it to a fish vet. They could do an aspiration and run tests. For me, just keeping an eye on it for a few days watching for anything, is what I’d do. If it gets red, doubles in size in a very short time, looks like an ulcer, gets white and fuzzy, let us know. It may very well be just a bump that never changes. Keep us posted? Please?
