Slowly Upgrading 55 To 75 Gallon

Any change in chemical composition of the water can trigger spawning.

Cool water normally does, cause it is a sign of the rainy season to start. That is the natural sign there will be food enough to be found for the youngsters, rivers overflowing, more water and places to hide for predators etc etc....

Ah ok! So because I was doing smaller water changes more often I was copying the rainy season still, even if tank is now warmer than before? And I did add plants. Which is sorta more spots to hide even if most of them are stem plants?

Yes but also adding ferts etc.... can trigger spawning.

Yeah the added chemicals make the water harder and some fish need harder water to breed. Probably something to do with enough calcium to make good egg shells.

But it happens for live bearers too.

But cories are soft water fish, wouldn’t hard water be worse for them to breed in? (I know nothing about breeding fish). I’ve never tested my kH or gH before but my pH holds at 7.2
Gonna be doing a water change later this week in potential preparation for new fish.

Have you said lately how the 75 gallon setup plan is coming along?

I am getting a new 75 gallon set up. I have a new thread if you are interested.

The fixer upper we got as a rental kinda has overtaken priority since David was sick for a couple months and worked on stabilizing his blood pressure. Hoping we can get supports in within a few weeks. Cuz I do gotta clean sand! Cold is not fun!
Ohh yes! I will look for it!

My fish have arrived!!! Everyone please meet and welcome to the family: Banana (Bristlenose pleco), Crowley (black blusher Angel) and Azriaphel (paraiba Angel). The Angelfish got a whole 55 gallon to explore and the pleco has a bunch of nooks and crannies to check out!

I am too! I mean I knew they would! I just hate the time between houses! Hehe. I’m still gonna miss Stucky but I’m glad to have his younger brother and a pleco in the tank again. Now it seems like a happy tank.

Dave125g. I still can’t believe I have Angelfish. 2!! 2 Angelfish!! Hopefully these two continue to get along and behave. I do have a few back up plans but I don’t wanna have to use them. It sucks Stucky is gone. I still miss him. But I do have his younger brother.

Ulu. Oh dear! Hehehe.

I have not only taken on Angelfish peoples, but I also have Ludwiga Repens red and a Red Rubin sword! And I’m using Thrive liquid all in one fertilizer!! Still not brave enough to try CO2 though. I also added a broadleaf Sag and Anubis bartolI and Anubis minima. I attached those to the tank walls with suction cups.

Hehe. Maybe if I don’t kill some plants when I rescape today during water change. I picked up a piece of spiderwood to put in there. There’s been a couple small chases.
Unfortunately the app isn’t letting me upload pictures from my phone right now.

jenmur I’ve spent the past week working my way from page 1 to 280 of this thread. I’m so sorry about Stucky! He’s snout was beautifully huge! It’s wonderful you were able to get his brother, sorta like having a piece of him!

I was wondering if you were able to post a link to the light you have on the 55 it seems to be doing great at growing your plants!

Oh wow!! Amazing! Yeah it’s kinda slow in places. But it helps me keep track of things from time to time. I miss that pleco! Stucky was the star of my tank. This was built around him and his needs. Hopefully his brother, Banana enjoys this tank as well and enjoys the upcoming upgrade.
This is the same light I’m using on this tank and my 2nd betta tank.

And I was told I should just screen shot my photos and post them that way. So here’s my 55 after replacing the sponge filter with a smaller one, adding the spiderwood, and moving a few plants around.

I was curious how your angels are behaving? I see in the pictures you have tetras in the tank. I added 2 myself a week ago. I if course got mixed advice on keeping them with tetras. But the angels are so peaceful! I did get juveniles.

Angel's and tetras do just fine. Most tetras are far faster then the angel. The angels learn fast they can't catch them.

Good to know! I’m glad I got them. They are fun to watch. Some people said the angels would eat the tetras. The first day my black neons did get into a tighter group and acted stressed. But the next day they were back to normal.

Fljoe. So far they are doing good. There was a couple of times Azriaphel chased Crowley for a few seconds but that’s it. I haven’t seen them chase any of the fish. I do realize that my Black neon tetras may eventually become lunch. But my Angelfish are just young things and on the small side. And thanks!

Dave125g. They seem fine with the barbs and tetras. I told them they better not bug Banana though.

See? Small still.

yep! Mine also. We may be in good shape. I’ve read that if the angels start out small, they won’t see our black neons as food once they get bigger! Especially since we are feeding them, so they don’t need to eat the tank mates.

I was keeping a full grown male angel in my feeder guppy tank he didn't eat them. I thought sure he'd whip them out.

Fljoe. Ohh that’s good. Yes I am feeding them twice a day. I’m hoping once the Angels are grown so will the smaller tetras and barbs.

Dave125g. Oh awesome! He was being a good boy! I’m hoping these two both get along with each other and get along with everyone else.

Blondeath. Welcome . They are good lights I think! And thank you! I am planning on eventually adding Anubis to the spiderwood

tfreema. Hehe I remember when I first planted it! Hehehe.

Gonna do a water change tonight. The bettas will get one tomorrow. My friend will receive instructions on how to feed. She has her own betta.

Yeah I hope so. Although I have a few different places I could take one angelfish if need be. But they buddies so far and I’m hoping a 4’ tank is big enough for 2 Angelfish.
