Slight nitrite spike.

So yesterday I put black diamond blasting media in 2 20gal long tanks. Loving the look.

Tank 1. Water tests good today. I moved shrimp out to 10gal and guppies and baby BN plecos in. But already had juvenile pleco in tank so I think that helped with established cycle.

Tank 2. Also 20gal long. Was running for months testing 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite but only had 20 green neos in it so very low bio load. Shrimp were taken out put in 10gal and 9 juvenile guppies were put in after rescape.
Water tests
Ammonia between 0 & .25ppm closer to 0
Nitrite .25ppm
Nitrate 5ppm
Here is pic of tank. Planted and dual sponge filter. Looks like maybe slight cloudy BB bloom.

mattgirl or anyone would you let this just play out for a day and see if settled down? Or do water change today?

As long as the numbers don't go much higher I would let it play out.

Omg!!! Life is crazy right now. I manage catering company through covid plus twins starting online school.

I JUST REALIZED I have an extra HOB on a tank in kids room hasn't been cleaned in long time.

I put it there for a situation like this months ago and forgot. Bahahaha

I will put on this tank having a spike.

That should clear up this mini-cycle in no time at all.

Nitrite almost 0 and I did plan ahead for your plecos. I have extra aquaclear 50 on my over stocked community tank getting nasty been there for months. Plus 2 sponge filters in community tank to swap with the 2 in 20gal long they will grow up in for a few months in there.

So dual sponge and HOBon 20long for these guys. All my tanks are set dual sponge. Just adding hob.

My question is the tank your plecos are going in is cycled but only has like 50 shrimp in it. I'm taking shrimp out and putting plecos in, obviously much higher bio load. Should I put extra seeded filters in now? Or when I get plecos?

I dont want to put filters on now right because no bioload to keep BB active? Is that correct?
