Skinny Fish Then Dying No Other Symptoms.

hyia guys,
Again unsure of what to do or how to treat
I have a 94 L river reef with an internal filter (Which is part of the tank), unsure how to explain so I’ll post pictures instead,
Ammonia and nitrite are 0, nitrates kept at 20
2 weeks ago my favourite fish died.
He was a dwarf gourami(RIP Norman ). He didn’t show any signs of disease, only in his last days he started with the classical hiding at the bottom and I noticed that despite eating he was starting to look very skinny.
There were no clamped fins or spots or visible worms or parasites. He was just progressively more skinny and weak.
I took him to the hospital tank, treated with paraguard to no avail.
A few days back I noticed one of my female mollies looking very skinny, again, no flashing, no clamped fins, normal behaviour.
I thought that maybe my feeding once a day was too little and increased my feeding to twice daily and made sure she was eating her share.
Still, skinny and weak. I took her out of the tank today as despite eating she was behaving weirdly, lying at the bottom of the tank (started today) and swimming as if she couldn’t fight the current from the filter.
I feed them flakes. No live food.
All the other fish seem fine, my other Molly just gave birth to at least 6 fry.
No signs of disease in any of the cardinal tetras, rasboras or the other mollies.
My community consists of:
1 male dalmatian molly and 3 females (this female is now on the hospital tank dosed with paraguard and salt as I haven’t got a clue of what’s wrong.)
5 cardinal tetras
5 harlequin rasboras.
4 amano shrimp
1 zebra snail
I just changed 25% of the water yesterday despite good parameters.
Does anybody have any ideas? (I haven’t had any new fish from anywhere).

Could you be missing stringy white poop? It could be some form of internal parasites.

Your Dwarf Gourami might have been a victI'm of an Iridovirus, a specific killer that affects a large percentage of Dwarf Gouramis. No cure for that. You have listed ten other relatively fragile tank mates that are apparently healthy. That strengthens my belief of a viral illness. The Molly's problem is likely not related to the Gourami's illness.

This EXACT same thing happened to my guppies, one by one they all died. No symptoms other than wasting (but still eating) and lethargic. I hope someone can help you, nobody on here helped me...

Wasting disease ;

Flubendazole 10 % powder

Best for eliminating Hydra. Treats protozoa wasting disease, serious treatment for Velvet, enternal and external parasites, 1/4 teaspoon of 10 % powder treats about 20 gallons of water for most parasitic Protozoa. Eliminate Carbon filtration during treatment. Change most of the water after 10 days. Will not harm plants, Prolonged use will kill most snails. .....

Thank you. When the gourami died I was upset thinking I was too late to treat. But then I thought that fish sometimes die of other causes rather than infection, so I let it pass and watched the tank. But now this molly is ill so I thought I’d better check with you guys in case it was some disease I had never heard of.

She is eating all her food. Even today when she took a turn for the worst my husband fed her (already in her own tank) and she ate it all. So not sure if that’s the reason, I didn’t now about this Protozoa though, so thank you

Sorry about your guppies...
My other mollies seem ok so far. I think since I don’t know what it is it might be too late for this sick fish. If the other start to waste away as well then it must be something infectious.

Charles:
Does flubendazole treat internal worms? Maybe that’s what it is? There’s nothing coming out of her to make me think so, but well, might be worth a shot :smug:

I don’t think so, but I might be able to observe better now that she is on her own. What is the best treatment for it?

praziquantel would be a good safe wormer...
Thank you. I’ll buy that and treat her with it. Worth a shot, I guess
