Sizing up -filter question

After successfully running two 10 gallon for over a year, I'm sizing up to a 55! I'm wondering if I can purchase two smaller filters for either end of the tank rather than just one huge one at the end?

I felt this was a good idea so the flow would be more gentle, and more filtration throughout the whole tank?

I run a Fluval 406 and an AC70 along with 2 sponge filters in my 55... But my tank is just a bit overstocked with community fish but at the same time very heavily planted. Also my WC routine is 50-75% every 5-7 days.

If you go with 2 filters don't use ones that are undersized for the tank. Use some that are at least able to support the tank as a stand alone filter.

I think its a better idea to use 2-3 filters than just rely on one. If you have one malfunctiin you're still at 66% filtration.
When I had large aquariums I did 2 reverse flow powerheads with sponge prefilters and one canister.

I agree with one of the above posters...dont undersize them.

Good luck

Also consider a large HOB on one end, then a large sponge filter on the other end.

Depends on your budget.....

How is the 55 gallon going to be stocked ?
