I set up my tank before I left for the summer (I don't know why) and now my dad, who is still at my house, says there is film on the top of the water. There's no fish in the tank and no plants just 2 pieces of driftwood and some river rocks. My filter and bubbler are not running either because of power outages Florida gets in the summer. I was afraid that when the power went out it might damage the equipment if no one was there to check on it.

He also said he sees nothing else growing in the tank like mold or algae.

I know that when I get back I'll have to clean the tank and everything else but will this do some damage to my driftwood or rocks?

How long will you be gone? The water is going to be pretty nasty just sitting there for a length of time.
It shouldn't actually hurt the rocks or the wood. They'll need a good cleaning.
You might have to boil the wood and run boiling water over the rocks.

It shouldn't be too horrible. Judge when you get back. If the wood and rocks look nasty, just give them a good cleaning.

Can't he just empty it for you? Just drain the water?

What was the purpose of leaving the water in the tank?

Meenu- I asked him that and he said he would do that tomorrow. If there is still a little bit of water at the bottom would that be a problem?

LyndaB- I filled it up to check for leaks and I forgot to empty it before I left.
