He hasn't been looking well for a week so I've been cleaning his water every few days. Well today he has bloody fin tips and is bloated and ... pineconing

I'm so sad right now My dh is going out to get some epsom salt for me, but I know it's very likely he won't make it and will be gone in a couple of days.

He was the 2nd I got since I restarted my fish obsession - he's been with me since Feb, and thinking about it, he was an adoption with Kingsley, and I'm not really sure how old he is

This pic is when I got him

Such a handsome boy. At least you can know that he was loved and you did the best for him that you could.

He's incredibly pretty. I'm sorry that he's sick and I'll be hoping for a miracle for you and him.

Just added the epsom salt... he's not horribly pineconed but definitely is. He's also looking chubby so I know it's dropsy Lowered the water level to where he can rest on his driftwood in his plants, and raised the temp.

To be honest if I had access to clove oil (I looked for some locally to have on hand and couldn't find any) I would think about euthanizeing if he doesn't improve in a day or two. He does not look comfortable at all

He did eat some garlic soaked Atison's though, so his appetite is up. I'll give him a pea tomorrow in garlic and then fast him, hopefully it will help the bloating.

Cajun I'm so sorry.... He is a beautiful boy.

Honestly, try every meal soaked in garlic. It helped Mars and he got dropsy in May time and only passed in September. He pineconed for only 1 day and built champion bubblenests up to 3 days before he died.

It's worth a shot, but he only got smaller after I started feeding garlicky food every time and loads of bloodworms and protein-filled food (I spoiled him once I realised he had dropsy).

Try it, only when they stop eating is is really bad. He'll let you know, trust me. When Mars told me it was time, he was gone within 24 hours, but had held on strongly for months and months and only refused food the morning of his last day.

My betta, Torch, pineconed. It was sad. I'm sorry you have to watch him suffer. I know it's rough. He's so beautiful. He lived a good life with you though.

the salts seem to be helping - he is less pineconed, and more active

At first I gave Mars just epsom salt baths, they never helped him. He was in there for about 20 mins at a time twice a week.

Nearer the end (last month or so) I kept a low dose in his tank at all times. It never did help him, but never made him any worse either.

Well he was in the salt for 3 hours, I just did a 95% water change. His scales are definitely better, but he's still bloated
